Foodpreneur 2017: Winner Winner Piggin' Dinner! August 08, 2017 09:35
In our last post, we were excited.
We were excited as some nice people decided they liked us and because it was the eve of the finals for the Virgin Foodpreneur comp, which is a big deal if you’re on foodie venture-adventure like we are.
So, writing this one, it’s fair to say our excitement levels have turned up to 11- because we bloody won. Hurrah.
After a paper-based round, a quarter final pitch comp and then a semi-final that saw us spend a week bringing our porky wares to the good people of Derby, the grand final was a live pitch (which you can see here), to four frankly awesome judges: Jim Creegan- Founder of Jimmy’s Iced Coffee and owner of truly heavyweight beard, Paul Lindley founder of Ella's Kitchen, Alice Liveing of Clean Eating Alice, and Levi Roots- a man we hold in high regard as one of the original Dragons’ Den foodie businesses.
That’s quite the panel, so to have them decide we were worthy of being crowned the 'best young food and drink business in the country' is (and we apologise for using this in advance) AMAZEBALLS. As we’ve said before, we’ve not got into the pig business to chase awards, but we wont lie- it’s lovely to pick them up. And, as a result of the win we’ll now be able to set up a dedicated pop up shop for our advent calendar in Intu Lakeside. More on this to follow!
To top the experience, the big man himself* Sir Richard Branson posted about our win on his social channels. We're not ashamed to say we’re total fanboys and girls of his at Team SP, as any man who once launched a cola by rolling a tank into Times Sq and pretending to blow up the competitor’s bill board deserves some serious piggin’ respect (We don’t quite have those kind of budgets but we might throw some evil looks to some chilli puffs the next time we see them).
Team SP. x
*We know it's probably not actually him, but let us have this one.
