Hurrah. Some nice people (Like Virgin) like us. July 24, 2017 18:15
We’re not ones for chasing the glory at SP, other than the occasional digital based ruffle we get from our friends on social media. But it’s always lovely to get a bit of love, and in the last few weeks we’ve had a nice run! Non-bearded-one Nick will give you the skinny:
Well it appears July has been the month for awards for Team SP. We started with the Game Changers, who recognised us as one of the Thames Valley area digital champions (We reckon there’s something cool about being a porky snack business in that list). Next up we made it to Start Up 100s, where I am truly humbled that Snaffling Pig shared the stage with other food companies like Primal Pantry, our Friends Candy Kittens and Oppo Ice Cream whom I have admired for ages.
And then the icing on the cake: Making it to the finals of the Foodpreneur 2017, set up by Virgin StartUp supported by Intu to find the country’s best new food and drink businesses. The final is set for tomorrow, and after starting with a few hundred entries, we're down to a final 4: SP, Love Corn, Tuk Tuk Chai & Love Cocoa. Each of the other guys are great in their own right and they all deserve to win and I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if we see these brands all over the shops in the next 3 years. Whatever the outcome, we’re just chuffed to bits to have made this far and we’re super proud to be waiving a meaty flag in such great company.
Running a start up is hard and leaves very little time for anything else. When we’re not worrying about quality, cash flow, sales or even the pension updates, applying for awards is always way down the agenda. However they are a great opportunity to take time out and reflect on everything the business has achieved. Yes they can generate some great PR, but the key thing for us is they give us the chance to celebrate just how far the business has come from a piggin’ passion project based in the kitchen, to the slightly mind blowing venture it now is for us. Our staff, suppliers and even our customers have really got behind the award and hopefully we can do them all proud.
Tonight will mostly involve saying the pitch over and over again, that’s when I’m not watching Love Island…Obvs, you melt.
(NB SP DOES NOT ENDORSE NICK’S CHOICE OF TV :D)
